Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is SiteData?

SiteData is a B2B website analytics platform that provides detailed visitor intelligence. It helps you understand who visits your site, where they come from, and how they interact with your content. Unlike basic analytics tools, SiteData offers advanced features like geographic data, user flow analysis, heatmaps, and predictive analytics.

How is SiteData different from Google Analytics?

SiteData focuses on business intelligence rather than just traffic metrics. Key differences include:

  • City-level geographic data out of the box
  • Built-in heatmaps and scroll tracking
  • Simpler, more focused interface
  • Privacy-focused with minimal cookies
  • Predictive analytics on higher plans
Is there a free trial?

Yes! All new accounts include a 7-day free trial of our Pro plan features. No credit card is required to start your trial. After the trial, you can choose to upgrade to a paid plan or continue with our free Basic plan.

Can I use SiteData on multiple websites?

Yes! The number of websites depends on your plan:

  • Basic: 1 website
  • Pro: Up to 5 websites
  • Enterprise: Unlimited websites

Each website gets its own tracking ID and separate analytics dashboard.

Tracking & Data

How long does it take to see data?

Data appears in real-time! As soon as you install the tracking code and visit your site, you should see activity in your dashboard within seconds. Historical reports update every few minutes.

How accurate is the geographic data?

SiteData uses CloudFront edge location data for geography, which provides:

  • Country accuracy: ~99%
  • Region/State accuracy: ~90%
  • City accuracy: ~75-85%

Major metropolitan areas typically have higher accuracy than rural locations.

Does SiteData slow down my website?

No. The SiteData SDK is only ~3KB minified and loads asynchronously. It doesn't block page rendering and has negligible impact on page load times. We use CDN delivery for fast global performance.

How long is my data stored?

Data retention depends on your plan:

  • Basic: 30 days
  • Pro: 1 year
  • Enterprise: 2 years

Troubleshooting

Why don't I see any data in my dashboard?

If no data appears, check these common issues:

  1. Verify installation - Check that the tracking code is on all pages
  2. Check tracking ID - Ensure you're using the correct tracking ID
  3. Disable ad blockers - Some blockers may prevent tracking
  4. Check for errors - Open browser console (F12) and look for JavaScript errors
  5. Test with debug mode - Add debug: true to see events logging
My page views seem too low. What's wrong?

Common reasons for lower-than-expected page views:

  • Tracking code not on all pages
  • Ad blockers affecting some visitors
  • Caching issues with the tracking code
  • For SPAs: Not tracking route changes manually

Try enabling debug mode and visiting your site to verify tracking is working.

The tracking code causes JavaScript errors

The SiteData SDK is designed to fail silently. If you see errors:

  • Check that the script URL is correct
  • Ensure your tracking ID is valid
  • Look for conflicts with other scripts
  • Try placing the script in <head> instead of body

Contact support if errors persist.

My SPA isn't tracking page changes

For Single Page Applications (React, Vue, Angular), you need to manually track route changes:

// Call on every route change
siteMetrics.trackPageview();

See the SPA integration guide for framework-specific examples.

Privacy & Security

Is SiteData GDPR compliant?

Yes. SiteData is designed with privacy in mind:

  • No personal data collection by default
  • Anonymous visitor IDs
  • No cross-site tracking
  • Data processing agreement available
  • EU data residency options for Enterprise
Does SiteData use cookies?

SiteData uses minimal first-party storage:

  • localStorage for persistent visitor ID
  • sessionStorage for session tracking

No third-party cookies are used. The stored data contains only anonymous identifiers.

Where is my data stored?

Data is stored securely on AWS infrastructure in the US-East region. Enterprise customers can request data residency in other regions. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

Billing Questions

Can I change my plan anytime?

Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.

What happens if I exceed my page view limit?

We don't immediately cut off tracking. If you consistently exceed your limit, we'll notify you and recommend upgrading. Tracking continues uninterrupted to ensure you don't lose data.

Do you offer refunds?

We offer a full refund within 14 days of purchase if you're not satisfied. For annual and 3-year plans, prorated refunds may be available depending on usage. Contact support for refund requests.
